Women can make arrangements to donate cord blood to the Bone Marrow Donor Institute (BMDI) Cord Blood Bank at the Murdoch Childrens Research Institute by contacting the BMDI Cord Blood Bank Coordinator at the Womens.
|
The Cord Blood Bank midwife will contact women who have agreed to donate their baby's cord blood, provide information about the service, assess the woman for suitability and ensure that consent has been obtained.
The Cord Blood Bank midwife attends the Women's birth suites, theatres and Frances Perry House, to collect the cord blood at the time of birth and forwards it to the bank. Women will be asked to return to the Cord Blood Bank office six months after the birth of their baby for a follow-up blood test. Once the donation process has been completed, the donation is placed on a world-wide public register.
