Bill Kalionis,
B.Sc (Hons), PhD



Dr Bill Kalionis' research interests, developed in Australia and the United States, include the genetic regulation of placental development and the identification of genes that are important in the clinically significant pregnancy disorder known as fetal growth restriction. His other research interest is in determining the role of placental stem cells in normal placental development and their potential contribution to placental pathologies. His peer reviewed research publications have appeared in journals such as Nature, EMBO J, Proc. Natl Acad Sci USA, Molecular Human Reproduction, Biology of Reproduction and Placenta.

He has supervised numerous PhD and honours students. Dr. Kalionis has been invited to speak at national and international meetings including the National Congress of the ANZPRA and the European Placenta Group/IFPA Meetings. He has received peer-reviewed research grants from the NHMRC, ARC, Clive and Vera Ramaciotti and Kathleen Cuningham Foundations. He is an Associate Editor for the journals Placenta and Molecular Human Reproduction.
