Buprenorphine in Pregnancy Register - The Women's

The Victorian Buprenorphine in Pregnancy Register is located at the the Royal Women's Hospital, Women's Alcohol and Drug Service.



The register was set up by the Drug and Poisons Unit of the Department of Human Services. The register does not replace the usual permit process for prescribing buprenorphine.

As there is insufficient research evidence available on the use of buprenorphine in pregnancy, prescribing buprenorphine for pregnant women in Victoria is according to the 'Clinical Practice Guidelines for the Use of Buprenorphine in Pregnancy' (pdf).

Data gained from this register will be used to inform practice on the safety of using buprenorphine in pregnancy, and aims to provide women with evidence-based choices regarding pharmacotherapy in pregnancy.

Patient identification is used only for data verification and will not be disclosed in any reports whatsoever.
