Childbirth Education

The Royal Women’s Hospital provides Childbirth Education programs for all pregnant women and their partners or support people, who have booked to give birth at the hospital.

Programs include:
  • fundamental classes in Childbirth Education
  • preparing for pregnancy
  • specialised sessions
  • non-English speaking sessions.

The programs are designed to inform women and increase their confidence about what to expect during pregnancy, labour, birth, breastfeeding and the early weeks following the birth of their baby.

Programs are held at the Women’s and at our satellite clinics at Fawkner and Moonee Ponds. Tours of the hospital for women booked to give birth at the Women's, are conducted regularly by an experienced midwife. For details of Childbirth Education classes and tours, please visit
