Severe endometriosis
|
- to reduce vascularity or reduce symptoms prior to surgery

Fibroids (>3cm diameter on ultrasound)

- to induce shrinkage prior to surgery

Chronic pelvic pain

- as a test to assess likely success of hysterectomy / oophorectomy
|
|
Ovarian entrapment
|
- as a test to assess likely success of oophorectomy

|
Dysfunctional uterine bleeding (DUB)
|
- endometrial preparation prior to endometrial ablation
|

To protect ovarian function
|
- prior to radiotherapy / chemotherapy

Treatment
|
Nafarelin nasal spray 200 micrograms, TWICE per day.
|
or
|
Goserelin depot injection 3.6mg, per month (if unable to tolerate nasal spray).

Procedure
|
All scripts for Gonadotrophin Releasing Hormone (GnRH) must:
|
- be signed by the appropriate head of unit; and
|
- have the indication for use
|
