This combined graduate program is an exciting opportunity for those wanting to explore options and gain experiences in midwifery and nursing.

If women’s health is your strong preference, the Women’s is an ideal setting to enjoy and develop both your midwifery and nursing skills in the one year.

The Women’s wants midwives and nurses who are passionate about caring for women, who can work harmoniously within a team and who can enjoy the challenge of developing themselves as individuals whilst also developing as professionals.

Duration

Full time employment for 53 weeks with commencement in February.

Clinical opportunities

This combined graduate program is designed to provide newly registered midwives/registered nurses with support, guidance and an opportunity to gain experience in their preferred clinical areas.

A variety of combinations (clinical areas and time) of midwifery and nursing are available, depending on preferences of candidates and availability within the organisation. These change from year to year.

Clinical areas in midwifery include Birth Suites, Postnatal, Pregnancy care while in nursing clinical areas may include Neonates, Reproductive Services (IVF), Oncology, Gynaecology, Women's Emergency Care Unit, Day Surgery Unit and Perioperative Unit.

Professional development

9 full study days are provided throughout the year, occurring more frequently early in the year. These days are tailored to meet the specific needs of your graduate group and cover a broad range of topics that promote creative and reflective midwifery and nursing best practice. They are complimented with individual tutorials and a comprehensive inservice education program.

The Women's offers an abundance of learning opportunities - we provide a comprehensive range of services available to women, many specialist practitioners and a variety of education programs available to staff.

Performance development

We understand the importance of regular feedback and provide a structured 3 month performance review program. Together with you, we discuss your progress and identify ongoing learning needs to help you consolidate and develop your midwifery and nursing practice.

Support

  • The Program Coordinator’s role is to manage and support, counsel and mentor graduate.
  • A team of midwifery Clinical Facilitators and Preceptors are willing and able to guide in the clinical setting. The Clinical Facilitators role is to orientate, support and guide novice practitioners throughout the year.
  • A Preceptor is allocated to each new Graduate, and their role is to buddy with the Graduate Midwife and familiarise them with the clinical environment.
  • Each placement provides Graduate a supernumerary time appropriate to that area.
