The Women’s wants midwives and nurses who are passionate about caring for women, who can work harmoniously within a team and who can enjoy the challenge of developing themselves as individuals whilst also developing as professionals.

Duration
|
Part time or full time employment for 52 weeks (minimum 0.8 EFT), with commencement February 2009.

Clinical opportunities
|
This combined graduate program is a relatively new initiative to provide newly registered midwives/registered nurses with support, guidance and an opportunity to gain clarity in their preferred clinical area.
|
A variety of combinations (clinical areas and time) of midwifery and nursing are available, depending on preferences of candidates and availability within the organisation. These change from year to year.
|
Clinical areas in midwifery include Birth Suites, Postnatal, Pregnancy care while in nursing clinical areas may include Neonates, Reproductive Services (IVF), Oncology, Gynaecology, Urgent Care (Emergency) and Perioperative Suites.

Professional and personal development
|
Nine study days and tutorials are offered. These provide opportunities for debriefing and education – including reviews of ‘must know’ topics and topics that promote creative midwifery and nursing practice.
|
The Women's offers an abundance of learning opportunities - we provide a comprehensive range of services available to women, many specialist practitioners and a variety of education programs available to staff.
|
Support
|
- The Program Coordinator’s role is to support, counsel and mentor graduate midwives.
|
- A team of midwifery Clinical Facilitators and Preceptors are willing and able to guide in the clinical setting. The Clinical Facilitators role is to orientate, support and guide novice practitioners throughout the year.
|
- A Preceptor is allocated to each new Graduate Midwife, and their role is to buddy with the Graduate Midwife and familiarise them with the clinical environment.
|
- Each placement provides Graduate Midwives a supernumerary time appropriate to that area.
|
- Network and hospital orientation.
|
|
Annual leave
|
Four weeks annual leave to be taken during the program to recharge your batteries. The remainder can be taken on completion.

|
The information night will be held on Thursday 15th May 2008 in the 1st floor Conference Room commencing at 6.30pm. Please register your attendance with the Clinical Education Team on 8345 2913.

Application process
|
BMid and BNurse/BMid candidates must apply via Midwifery/Nursing Computer Match. Application requirements are clearly outlined on the Postgraduate Medical Council of Victoria website.

1) Letter of application

2) Certified copy of transcript of results

3) Curriculum vitae including names of 2 referees who will provide verbal references (can be the same or different to those referees providing written references). At least one referee must be from a clinical placement.to Clinical Staff Development, at the Royal Women's Hospital (submission details included on the form).

4) Request 2 referees to complete and return a Confidential Professional Reference Form to Clinical Education Team, at the Royal Women's Hospital (submission details included on the form).

5) Passport sized photograph

6) A brief (1/2-1 page) answer to EACH of the following:

- “Describe a clinical situation you found difficult" - please include details of your response and actions, and the outcome of the situation.

- “Write a brief reflection on what fascinates you about midwifery”
