Janet Bastow - The Women's

Janet Bastow is working up a sweat for the Royal Women’s Hospital. Ms Bastow and four friends are in training to run a half marathon on 11 October and they plan to take the Women’s and our supporters with them.

“I would like to use the half marathon to create awareness about endometriosis,” says Ms Bastow, who battles with the chronic condition daily. “Due to the medication I am taking, I have reduced bone density and increased the risk of developing osteoporosis so my doctor advised me to exercise more to increase my bone density. Running is perfect exercise for this.”

The marathon also presented an opportunity to raise money to support the Women’s research into diagnosis and treatments for endometriosis. Affecting about one in ten women, endometriosis is a condition where tissue, which normally lines the uterus, is found in abnormal sites around the body. It can cause pelvic pain and infertility.

Ms Bastow is keen to demonstrate that “we can be unwell but still achieve great things like running a half marathon”.

Please use our secure online donation form to support Janet's marathon effort.
