Inter-library loan (ILL)



This service provides document delivery of books, book chapters and journal articles which are not held by the Library.
  • An approved request form must be used to comply with Australian copyright.

Journal article inter-library loan
  • Available to Hospital staff - requires a Library member barcode.
  • Fill out online and submit via email.
Book inter-library loan
  • Available to Hospital staff - requires a Library member barcode.
  • Fill out online and submit via email.
  • A fee applies to book loans - $13.20 per item.
Book chapter inter-library loan
  • Available to Hospital staff - requires a Library member barcode.
  • Fill out online and submit via email.

Service conditions
There is a limit of 5 requests per person per week.
Charges apply for document delivery requests:
  • to support external coursework (excepting RANZCOG courses)
  • for private purposes
  • in excess of normal entitlements
  • for fee-paying clients

The fee for standard service (including GST) is:
  • $16.50 per book (within Australia - 10 day turnaround)
  • $11.00 per article (within Australia - 4 day turnaround)

Additional fees apply for faster turnaround and/or supply from overseas.

Resource purchase



Use this service to:
  • purchase books and journals on behalf of a Department
  • obtain resources "on approval" for evaluation
  • recommend a resource for the Library collection

Book purchases
  • "On approval" items must not be taken offsite until paid for.
  • Departmental book orders placed via the Library may be entitled to discounted Library prices.
  • Departmental books can be catalogued by the Library (optional). Each book appears in the catalogue with a departmental location. Access to materials is controlled by the owning Department.
  • Requests for new Library journal subscriptions are assessed in terms of the total Hospital journal spend and subject coverage.

Journal purchases
  • Departmental journal subscriptions can be arranged via the Library (preferred). The Department provides the cost centre, the renewal is processed via the Library, and the subscription is handled by the Library subscription agent.
  • Requests for new Library journal subscriptions are assessed in terms of the total Hospital journal spend and subject coverage.

Literature search



This service provides Librarian-assisted subject searching of medical literature databases.

Service conditions
  • Results are provided in the form of an email or hardcopy printout of relevant article citations.
  • Turnaround is 48 hours (2 working days) unless otherwise negotiated.
  • For best results, clients are encouraged to be present during the search.
  • The service is freely available to Hospital staff for Hospital work purposes. Limits and fees may apply for other client groups and purposes.
