Newborn Emergency Transport Service (NETS)

The Newborn Emergency Transport Service provides safe transportation of sick newborn infants as well as advice and education programs in perinatal care and the provision of facilities for newborns.



The Victorian Perinatal Emergency Referral Service (PERS) works with NETS to facilitate perinatal emergency transfers, and provide access to obstetric and neonatal resources and clinical advice about perinatal emergencies.

  • obtain assistance with arranging emergency transport (mother and / or newborn).
  • speak to a PERS or NETS consultant regarding management options.
  • gain assistance with information regarding evidence-based clinical guidelines for care in urgent perinatal situations.
  • request assistance with organising an appropriate higher level maternal or neonatal bed.
