Nutrition and Dietetics

At the Women’s we understand that good nutrition is an essential part of health maintenance, recovery from illness and the management of specific medical conditions.

Our dietitians have specialist knowledge of nutrition and women’s health at different ages and stages of life, such as during adolescence, pregnancy, breastfeeding and menopause, and can provide expert advice on issues such as:
  • pre pregnancy and pregnancy nutrition
  • weight and eating concerns
  • diabetes
  • polycystic ovary syndrome
  • pelvic floor disorders
  • older women’s health.

Dietitians work as part of multidisciplinary teams providing care for maternity, gynaecology, oncology and neonatal patients. They provide individualised advice for nutritional needs and will liaise with catering staff if you need a special diet while you’re at the Women’s.

Nutrition and dietetics services are available for all inpatients and outpatients attending the hospital by referral from medical, nursing or allied health staff. Women can also contact our Nutrition and Dietetics services directly.

Referrals are accepted from GP’s or other health professionals for dietary advice related to women’s health issues, depending on availability of appointments.

Dietitians are available from 8.30am to 5.00pm Monday to Friday.
We can be contacted on (03) 9344 2116 or via the hospital switchboard.
