Dr Padma Murthi
MPhil, MSc, PhD



Dr Padma Murthi is a Senior Research Fellow who joined the Pregnancy Research Centre in 2001. Dr Murthi has a background in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology and Endocrinology. Her research interests are focused on understanding the important pregnancy disorder called fetal growth restriction (FGR). Recently she has also focused on the role of stem cells in the human placenta and their potential role in significant pregnancy disorders.

RESEARCH GOALS


Currently Dr Padma Murthi is involved in three major projects in the Pregnancy Research Centre. The overall aims of all three projects are to gain better understand the molecular mechanisms of human fetal growth restriction.
Project 1: Molecular regulation of placental development
Project 2. Identification of factors associated with placental thrombosis in human fetal growth restriction
Project 3: Isolation and charcterisation of placental stem cells
