The Pregnancy Advisory Service (PAS) supports women who have an unplanned or unwanted pregnancy, and provides information, counselling, advocacy and referrals to assist them in decision making about their pregnancy options, including abortion at the Women's.
The PAS Intake service responds to new enquiries about support services, appointments and bookings.
How to refer
A woman can refer herself by contacting PAS directly. A health professional can refer a woman , however PAS will wish to speak to each woman directly prior to confirming any appointments or arrangements.
Referral Letters
It is preferable that women have a referral letter from a doctor. For Medicare purposes, the letter should be addressed to “Dear Doctor”. It should confirm the pregnancy, and request assessment for termination of pregnancy. To maintain appropriate privacy standards, please do not mail or fax referral letters without prior consultation with PAS. Referral letters can be given directly to the woman.
Counselling appointments
Some women with an unplanned or unwanted pregnancy will feel clear about what they plan to do, while others may feel unsure or ambivalent. Counselling is an optional, free service offered by PAS to all women who contact us, and can address each woman’s individual circumstances.
Hours and days of service operation
PAS is open during normal business hours, Monday to Friday. Calls regarding new appointments can be made from 9.15am to midday, and 1.30pm to 4.30pm.
Women may drop in without an appointment, between 10.00am to midday and 2.00pm to 4.00pm, however there may be a delay in seeing a worker, depending on availability.
Please note that sometimes callers will not get through immediately, because of the extremely high demand on this service.
