Pregnancy Advisory Service (PAS)

The Pregnancy Advisory Service (PAS) supports women who have an unplanned or unwanted pregnancy, and provides information, advocacy and referrals to assist them in decision making about their pregnancy options, including abortion at the Women's.

The PAS Intake service responds to new enquiries about support services, appointments and bookings. Health professionals have the option of speaking to one of our staff members or leaving a message. Health professionals can make a referral on behalf of a woman, but the Pregnancy Advisory Service will still need to speak directly to each woman (over the phone or in person) before any appointments and arrangements can be confirmed.

Referral Letters

It is preferable that women have a referral letter from a doctor. For Medicare purposes, the letter should be addressed to “Dear Doctor”. It should confirm the pregnancy, and request assessment for termination of pregnancy. To maintain appropriate privacy standards, please do not mail or fax referral letters without prior consultation with PAS. Referral letters can be given directly to the woman.

Counselling appointments

Some women with an unplanned or unwanted pregnancy will feel clear about what they plan to do, while others may feel unsure or ambivalent. Counselling is an optional, free service offered to all women, and can address each woman’s individual circumstances.
