For women choosing to give birth at the Royal Women's Hospital, we offer the following pregnancy care options:

Hospital based care
Hospital based care means that your care is provided primarily by midwives at the Women's. There are three key visits with a doctor: at your first pregnancy clinic appointment, at 36 weeks and at 41 weeks. More doctor visits are organised if you need them.
After making a pregnancy booking, you will be placed with one of our pregnancy care teams. Your pregnancy care team will take care of you during your pregnancy, labour, birth and postnatal stay.
Shared maternity care
Shared Maternity Care means that your pregnancy care is shared between the Women’s and a local midwife/doctor who is affiliated with the hospital or one of our community clinics.
The birth of your baby and postnatal care is at the Women’s. You will need to come to the hospital for your first pregnancy care appointment.
You will also need to come to the hospital or one of our hospital community clinics for three of your pregnancy care appointments: at 26 weeks, 36 weeks and 41 weeks.

Community clinics
The Women’s provides community clinics at Kensington, Fawkner and Moonee Ponds. Each clinic has its own team of midwives and doctors from the Women’s, which allows you to have all your pregnancy care at your community clinic. Refer to community clinics for more information.
