Program criteria
|
The applicant must:
|
- Demonstrate that their utilisation of the English language is appropriate to function as a competent nurse or midwife and be able to provide quality client care. Further information about English language standards.
|
- Have sufficient clinical experience within the last five years and be registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia
- Be a citizen or permanent resident of Australia
- Submit curriculum vitae with covering letter to the Women’s Refresher Coordinator including a list of the learning objectives you hope to achieve on completion of the refresher program and contact details for two referees.
- Provide evidence of current reflective reading in nursing and/or midwifery.
- Attend an interview with the Refresher Coordinator and other members of the Clinical Education Team
- Successfully complete the Women’s medicine's management competency package
- Successfully complete a short Women’s midwifery test (midwives only)
- Be able to attend all scheduled study days prior to committing to the course
- Be able to attend at least three days a week (minimum of three shifts per week). These days are not to be during weekends, public holidays or night duty, to ensure adequate clinical supervision.
- Daily attendance sheet to be signed by NUM, AUM, Preceptor, Clinical Facilitator, Clinical Education Team
- All participants must work under the supervision of a registered nurse or a registered midwife (for midwifery areas) (NBV, 2008).

- All participants must work according to the NMBA codes and guidelines.
|
- In consultation with the course coordinator participants must have formulated an initial learning contract within one week of commencement of the course. Participants should work with the Course Coordinator and/or their preceptor to ensure that they are meeting these learning goals.
- It is required and expected that participants supplement their clinical shifts by investigation of current and evidence-based research (home study)
- All applicants are required to have a current working with children's check and undergo a police check that is arranged by the Women’s HR Department prior to commencing the Refresher Course.
