"Amina's Stories"

This video was developed to introduce women from Somalia, Ethiopia and Eritrea to the services of the Royal Women's Hospital, and some of the other women's health services in Melbourne, by following several women's journeys through the hospital.

It was produced as a collaborative project between the various health services, in consultation with women and workers from the African communities.

The DVD was made available in English, Somali, Arabic and Amharic, to increase its accessibility to women from the Horn of Africa.

Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) - Issues for Clinical Practice

Women's Individual Needs Project, The Royal Women's Hospital, Melbourne 2001
This video was developed to provide health practitioners with critical cultural information, and offers advice on the maternal health issues surrounding pregnancy and birth, as they relate to FGM.

It offers a practical guide to deinfibulation procedures, as well as an insight into the assessment and obstetric management of affected women. It was developed using the expertise of clinicians in consultation with consumers at the Royal Women's Hospital in Melbourne, and draws on existing national and international resources on the topic.

The video aims to promote discussion and open communication between women and their carers, and to assist midwives and doctors to more fully understand and respond to the needs of women who have undergone FGM.
