Riding for the Women's
Riding for the Women’s was created by a team of dedicated bike riders, who work at the Royal Women’s Hospital in Melbourne. | ||

| Four teams entered the 520km Murray to Moyne overnight bicycle relay, held in March and April, 2012. One of the goals was to fundraise for a world-first study into endometriosis that is being led by Professor Martha Hickey - and to raise $10,000. Endometriosis is a major cause of infertility and reduced quality of life of tens of thousands of women in Australia. Findings from this study have the potential to enable early diagnosis of endometriosis, thereby improving the management of this common and debilitating condition. The bicycle relay was over 520 km from the Murray River (Victorian side) to Port Fairy (on the Victorian coast). Each team rode between 20 and 30 kms before passing the baton to the next group, and having a rest themselves. Each rider cycled between 120 and 150 on the way to Hamilton, before having a short rest for a couple of hours (at Hamilton) before riding a further 90 kms to Port Fairy. The teams also felt the event would help to grow the active community of the Women’s and foster team spirit amongst their colleagues at the hospital. |
