The Royal Women’s Hospital offers scholarships to postgraduate research degree students undertaking approved research projects within the hospital during the academic year.
|
The purpose of these scholarships is to encourage quality research and to broaden the research base within the hospital, so that as many as possible of the Women’s patient care activities are supported by valuable research activity.
Applications are therefore judged on the basis of a scholarship award progressing the above goal.

|
The award of a scholarship for a given academic year does not guarantee its continuation in subsequent years. The availability of funds and the successful progress of a candidate’s project will be determinants of continuing scholarship support, but applicants should not presume that a successful application in one year will necessarily ensure successful applications in subsequent years.
The annual value of a full scholarships is usually in the range of $20,000 - $30,000. The majority of these funds is awarded as a tax free stipend for bona fide, full-time, enrolled postgraduate research degree students working at the Women's. Some funds may also be awarded toward the costs of the study project.
Scholarship stipends are paid quarterly to the successful applicants and any associated project support funds to the nominated value are accessed by presentation of invoices with details of relevant expenditures.
Scholarship stipends are income tax exempt provided the recipient is a student enrolled full-time in a postgraduate research degree university course and is undertaking research that does not constitute a rendering of a service to the Women’s.
