Each year CASA House provides community and professional training for those interested in gaining skills and insight into working with victim/survivors of sexual assault.

Tailored programs


CASA House also tailors training programs for specific workplaces and learner groups. If you are interested in us adapting a training program to meet the needs of your agency, please contact us to discuss your requirements and negotiate cost.

People who attend our workshops come from health and welfare, counselling and medical fields.

About Responding to Sexual Assault - Level 1


The Level 1 program is designed to assist those working with victim/survivors who have not had previous opportunities to access training. It is also suitable for students. The program:
  • examines the nature and consequences of sexual assault and key issues relevant to providing an effective response
  • provides information about referral options and professional support.

About Responding to Sexual Assault - Level 2


The Level 2 program is designed to extend the skills of those who are working with victim/survivors of sexual assault and have completed 'Responding to Sexual Assault - Level 1'. The Level 2 program:
  • considers theoretical framework of the rights/advocacy model of responding to victim/survivors of sexual assault
  • enhances skills and strategies for responding to people in crisis because of sexual assault
  • examines vicarious trauma for workers.

Completion of Level 1 is compulsory before participation in Level 2.

About Secondary Trauma & Self Care


This workshop aims to normalise the impacts of working with victim/survivors and foster individual, team and organisational responses to self care and secondary trauma. The workshop:
  • expands understanding of secondary trauma/vicacious trauma
  • identifies personal and professional effects of working with survivors of violence and trauma
  • explores ways to sustain and support work with survivors of trauma both organisationally and personally.

A half day Secondary Trauma and Self Care workshop will be run in Semester 2 on Tuesday, 9 September 2008.

About CASA training


Training workshops are conducted on Level 4, Queen Victoria Women's Centre, 210 Lonsdale Street Melbourne. Paid parking is available nearby however the QV centre is also serviced by many forms of public transport. Trains to Melbourne Central, Swanston Street trams and Lonsdale Street buses.

CASA House provides morning and afternoon tea. Training participants are welcome to bring their own lunch or enjoy the selection of food available in the QV food court adjacent to QVWC.
