The Women’s congratulates Board member and chair of our Research Committee, Professor David Copolov (OAM), who was this week awarded the Officer (AO) in the General Division of the Order of Australia.
Prof Copolov, who is also a member of our Primary Care and Population Health Advisory Committee, was acknowledged for his research leadership.
“This is a wonderful acknowledgement of his contributions to tertiary education administration, medicine in the field of psychiatry, mental health research, and to the community more generally,” the Women’s CEO, Dr Sue Matthews said.
Prof Copolov is also the Pro Vice Chancellor of Major Campuses and Student Engagement at Monash University and Professor of Psychiatry at Monash and at the University of Melbourne.
He is an Honorary Professorial Fellow at the Florey Institute for Neuroscience and Mental Health and a Director of the Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation (ANSTO).
Prof Copolov has held several advisory appointments to the Federal and State Governments, including 12 years as a member of the Victorian Ministerial Advisory Committee on Mental Health and eight years as the psychiatric expert on the Australian Drug Evaluation Committee.
“I’m really delighted, deeply honoured and very grateful," he told Jewish online news website J-Wire this week.
"Grateful to those who nominated me and also grateful for being able to work with wonderful colleagues at Monash University, in psychiatry and psychiatric research and on the boards of specialist hospitals and research organisations.
“I sincerely hope that I can make meaningful contributions in all of these fields in the years to come.”
