Obstetrics and Gynaecology Registrars were making certain their laparoscopic techniques were perfect at the Women’s this week.

They were taking the opportunity to improve their skills outside the theatre under the watchful eye of senior staff using simulators provided by Applied Medical.

“This is the first time we have done this,” Dr Shamitha Kathurusinghe said.

“We have had good feedback and have already organised the next training session on 17 June. This will teach trainees about crossing instruments during surgery.

“It is a good way to improve skills outside the theatre.”

Obstetrics and Gynaecology Registrar Dr Helen McNamara said it was good to be able to practice techniques outside the theatre with senior staff there to help.
