As a specialist women’s hospital, we offer an extensive range of services and clinics to support women in adolescence, during the childbearing years, middle age and the later years.

We are based in Parkville and we also offer maternity and general gynaecological services in Sandringham. Contact details for both hospitals are provided throughout this website.

How to access our services

  • To access our services and clinics you will need a GP referral. Your GP plays an important role in your health care and provides you with continuity of care in the community.
  • Following your consultation with your GP, your GP may decide to refer you to the Women’s for specialist treatment and care.

Making your first appointment

  • Your GP may refer you to the Women’s, provided you meet the hospital access criteria. 
  • If you meet the hospital access criteria, your GP should fax a referral to us. 
  • You and your GP will then receive a letter from the hospital within 5 working days to acknowledge that we have received the referral. 
  • Your referral will be assessed by the hospital to determine a first appointment date that takes into account the clinical urgency of your health needs and those of other patients. 
  • You will be notified of your first appointment with a letter from the hospital.

Changing or cancelling your first appointment

If you need to change or cancel your first appointment with us, please call Re-bookings & cancellations for Parkville or Sandringham.

Pregnancy services

  • Your GP may refer you to the Women’s, provided you meet the hospital criteria. 
  • If you meet the hospital criteria, your first appointment will usually be between 14 and 18 weeks gestation. 
  • Your GP will usually provide you with care until you see us, including advice and initial tests.

Women's health and specialist gynaecology clinics

  • Your GP may decide to refer you to the Women’s for specialist treatment and care. 
  • Your referral will be assessed by the hospital to determine a first appointment date that takes into account the clinical urgency of your health needs and those of other patients. 
  • You will be notified of your first appointment with a letter from the hospital.

Dysplasia, gynaecological and breast cancer

  • Following consultation with your GP or specialist, you may be referred to the Women’s for specialist treatment and care.
  • You and your referring doctor will then receive a letter from the hospital within 5 working days to acknowledge that we have received the referral. 
  • Your referral will be assessed by the hospital to determine a first appointment date that takes into account the clinical urgency of your health needs and those of other patients.
