Benefits
We cannot guarantee or promise that you will receive any benefits from this project.
However, many people feel empowered by having their lived experience treated as a form of expertise that can be used to make change.
There will be the opportunity to:
- have your voice heard and to contribute to a real-world solution in a hospital, and
- build on your expertise as someone with lived experience of domestic, family and sexual violence.
You may also feel part of a supportive group of likeminded people, which can reduce a sense of loneliness or isolation.
Risks
Safety
Depending on your situation, there may be potential risk posed to you, if those who used (or use) violence against you were to find out about your participation in this group.
We encourage you to use the self-reflection questions to consider whether now is a good time to take part in this project. If you become part of this project, we will work with you to develop a personalised wellbeing and safety plan.
Psychological distress
We will design all workshops according to trauma-informed principles that prioritise the emotional, physical and psychological safety and wellbeing of participants above all else.
However, there is always some risk that you might become upset, distressed, or experience negative emotions by participating in this project. It is important to know you can stop at any time, leave the room/Zoom room, take a break, and do whatever else you need to take care of yourself.
You will be able to access short-term counselling through the Employee Assistance Program. This support will be provided by qualified staff who are not members of the team, though you are also welcome and encouraged to bring your concerns to us so that we can help.
We will also provide an optional group reflective session with a qualified counsellor so that you can talk about the project with other participants and reflect on your involvement.
