The Women’s is located on the corner of Grattan Street and Flemington Road, Parkville.

There is a range of options to get to the Women’s, with tram and bus stops close by and paid car parking available.

Wheelchair access is available at the hospital’s main entrance on the corner of Grattan Street and Flemington Road (Ground Level) and the Women's Emergency Care entrance on Flemington Rd (Lower Ground entrance).

Car parking

Paid underground car park

Access the Women’s car park from Flemington Road, 6am to 9pm, seven days per week. Parking is for staff, patients and their visitors only.

Please note the car park occasionally reaches capacity. Please allow extra time to find parking nearby.

Accessible parking

On level B1, a number of parking bays are set aside for visitors and patients with disabilities. Lifts lead directly to the main reception, outpatient services or private consulting suites.

Short-term parking

There are dedicated spaces for visitors and patients and a small number of short-term (30 minute) parking spaces for pick-up and drop-off only at the Lower Ground Level, also off Flemington Road. There is also a small area for pick-up and drop-off at the Lower Ground entrance.

Street parking

Limited street meter parking is available in streets surrounding the hospital. 

Public pick-up and drop-off zone

There is a public pick-up and drop-off zone on Grattan Street. There is also a small area for pick-up and drop-off at the Lower Ground entrance.

Bus stops have returned to Grattan Street. To plan your trip, visit the Public Transport Victoria website. Please check your travel route and allow any extra time needed.

Bus 401: North Melbourne Station to Melbourne University Loop via Royal Melbourne Hospital. Get off at Royal Melbourne Hospital/Grattan Street.

Bus 402: Footscray Station to East Melbourne via North Melbourne. Get off at Royal Melbourne Hospital/Grattan Street.

Bus 403: Footscray Station to Melbourne University via Royal Melbourne Hospital. Get off at Royal Melbourne Hospital/Grattan Street.

Bus 505: Moonee Ponds to Melbourne University. Get off at Melbourne University/Royal Parade.

Bus 546: Heidelberg Station to Melbourne University/Queen Victoria Market via Clifton Hill and Carlton. Get off at Melbourne University/Grattan Street.

Taxis

There are taxi ranks in front of the hospital on Flemington Road, and around the corner in Grattan Street.

Bike parking

There are secure bicycle racks at the hospital’s main entrance (corner of Grattan Street and Flemington Road) and the emergency entrance (off Flemington Road). 

Financial assistance

Eligible Victorians who must travel a long way for specialist medical treatment can receive financial assistance.

Patients must live in a designated rural area and travel 100km one way or 500km per week to see a medical specialist.
