Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) Clinic

The Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) Clinic assists patients in feeling prepared, informed, and supported for their upcoming surgery and recovery.

The Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) Clinic is a patient-centred care pathway designed to deliver high-quality healthcare to our surgical patients. Our program aims to:

  • Help you best prepare your body and mind before your operation.
  • Lower the chances of complications after your surgery.
  • Decrease your length of stay in hospital.
  • Improve your overall hospital experience.

Clinic information

The ERAS Clinic may form part of your surgical care at the Women’s. Our ERAS Clinic nurses are here to support you throughout your surgical journey—from your first pre-surgery appointment through to your recovery after your surgery. You may also receive support from other allied health teams at the Women’s, depending on your needs.

Most people will have three appointments with the ERAS Clinic:

  • Two appointments before your surgery.
  • One appointment about 30 days after your surgery.
  • Please note: appointments will take place via phone or telehealth video call. We do not offer face-to-face ERAS Clinic appointments.

What to expect

During your first appointment, the ERAS Clinic nurse will:

  • Introduce the ERAS program and discuss what to expect from our clinic service.
  • Answer any questions that you may have.
  • Provide you with access to our ERAS education package, including videos from our Virtual Surgical School.

Our education package will explain ERAS in more detail, help you better prepare for surgery, and what to expect during your recovery.

During your ERAS appointments, you may also receive:

  • Health screenings and assessments.
  • Referrals to allied health services if needed.
