Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) Program

The Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) program is designed to help patients feel informed, prepared, and supported before and after surgery.

The Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) program is a patient-centred care pathway designed to deliver high-quality healthcare aiming to:

  • Help you prepare physically and mentally for surgery
  • reduce the risk of complications
  • shorten your hospital stay
  • support your recovery at home.

Clinic information

The ERAS Clinic is part of your surgical care at the Women’s. Our ERAS Clinic Nurses will support you throughout your journey—from your first appointment through to your recovery after surgery. You may also receive support from allied health teams, depending on your needs.

Most people will have three appointments with the ERAS Clinic:

  • Two appointments before your surgery.
  • One appointment about 30 days after your surgery.
  • Please note: appointments will take place by phone or telehealth video call.

What to expect

During your first appointment, the ERAS Clinic Nurse will:

  • Explain the ERAS pathway and what to expect.
  • Answer any questions you may have.
  • Give you access to our ERAS education package, including videos from our Virtual Surgical School.

The education package will help you understand how to prepare for surgery, look after your health, and know what to expect during recovery.

During your ERAS appointments, you may also receive:

  • Health screenings and assessments
  • referrals to allied health services if needed.
