At the Women’s, our people are the beating heart behind the incredible care we provide to women and babies.

Twenty special staff members and volunteers and two teams were recognised for their dedication at this year’s Staff Excellence Awards.

Representing departments from across the hospital, the winners share a passion for making the Women’s a better place for patients, families and their colleagues.

The event was hosted by Women’s CEO Sue Matthews, with presentations from Board Chair Shelly Park. Representatives from the Ferrara and Woodward families also attended, recognising the lasting contributions of Liliana Ferrara and Lady Lois Woodward, whose awards honour their legacy at the hospital.

“This event is a highlight of my year, as we come together to reflect on some of the incredible work happening here at the Women’s,” said Sue.

“Those being acknowledged today embody the values that unite us: passion; courage; discovery; and respect.”

Woodward Family Medal of Excellence

This year’s prestigious Woodward Family Medal of Excellence was awarded to Dr Ginette Falcone.

Ginette’s contributions to the Women’s span more than 25 years of leadership, advocacy and excellence in anaesthesia.

She is committed to improving the care, rights and outcomes of women, particularly those with complex medical and social needs.

Highly respected among her colleagues, Ginette has mentored generations of anaesthetic trainees, fostering a culture of respect, wellbeing and compassion.

Reflecting on her early years as an anaesthetic registrar Ginette says, “I didn’t know what it was about the Women’s, but I was hooked.”

Through years of collaboration and teamwork, Ginette realised it is the strong bonds and friendships between colleagues that form the unique fabric of the Women’s culture.

“Conversation and friendship transform our work from the ordinary to priceless experiences in our working life,” she says.
