The Women’s provides clinical placements for Registered Nurses completing postgraduate midwifery studies in order to qualify and practice as a midwife.
Our postgraduate midwifery students are a valuable part of our team and our clinical placement rotations cover a diverse range of midwifery practice. Our highly experienced Clinical Support Midwives (CSMs) will work with you to support your learning journey through orientation, direct clinical support, clinical tutorials and regular debriefing sessions.
All midwifery placements at the Women’s are supernumerary. (Supernumerary means that you will be rostered in addition to the registered Midwives in the clinical areas in order to maximise your clinical experience and meet your clinical objectives.)
All midwifery clinical placements at the Women’s are unpaid. Students are rostered a minimum of three days a week in order to complete their clinical requirements.
The Women’s works in partnership with La Trobe University to provide midwifery clinical placements for its Graduate Diploma in Midwifery program each year. Further information about the Graduate Diploma in Midwifery studies can be found on the La Trobe University website.

Applications for the 2020 program open on the 3rd of June 2019 and close on 19th August 2019.

Are you interested in learning more about a postgraduate midwifery clinical placement at the Women's?
An information evening is scheduled for Tuesday 25th June 2019 from 5 - 8pm at the Women's (Parkville). To register your attendance please email Clinical Education.
At this event, prospective students will learn about the supernumerary model, rotations and clinical requirements and key staff will be there to answer your questions.

Interactive interviews for the 2020 postgraduate midwifery clinical placements will be held on Wednesday 3rd September 2019. All interviews must be in person.
